Year 10 Work ExperienceDear Parents of Year 10 Students,
It is very unfortunate that the Work Experience program had to be cancelled for the time being due to the Coronavirus. Many students had organised placements that would have provided them with valuable insights into a trade or profession. These experiences are exactly what many students need to support them through their school to work transition. These experiences are also unique and very difficult to mimic in a school / classroom environment, and that’s why I feel it is such a loss.
The vast majority of students will be home for the final two weeks of Term 1. As the parent / carer you can provide your child with some work experience by organising some extra responsibilities at home… chores! Particularly, tasks they already don’t do.
It’s only an idea; not a compulsory requirement, but there is so much research and evidence that highlight the benefits for adolescents (and young children) when they commit to responsibilities in the home environment. I understand that many students may be inundated with the changes to school lesson delivery, but this is something that can be incorporated into the new routine.
Below are two links to websites that can give you some ideas of how young people can help out around the house and why it’s so important to their future.
